With the aim to foster growth of Building Information Modeling (BIM) for Architecture, Engineering & Construction (AEC) industry in Hong Kong, several Hong Kong’s top industry experts together launched the Open BIM Forum, which was initiated by HKICBIM and held at Charles K. Kao Auditorium, Hong Kong Science Park on 18 May 2018. Experts including Ms. Ada Fung, Former Deputy Director of Housing (Development & Construction), Hong Kong Housing Authority, proactively spoke for the applications and development for BIM technology in Hong Kong during the forum.
The first honourable guest speaker, Ms. Ada Fung talked about her experience of BIM applications on public housing development work in Hong Kong during her career time in the Housing Authority. Ada mentioned the challenges to pursue industry-wide BIM implementation, and shared her hope of ideal BIM workflow in the future.
Other guest speakers at the Open BIM Forum included Mr Eddie Can, Associate at Zaha Hadid Architects; Mr Maurice Kong, Business Development Manager at Bricsys NV; Mr Paul Yue, Senior Application Engineer at Bentley Systems. They discussed how BIM technology would guarantee the sustainable development of civil infrastructure. Their work experience in different aspects of BIM provided valuable references for the audience.
In the second half of the Forum, Wisdom Chan, Co-founder & Chief Technology Officer at CHAIN Technology Development, gave an amazing interactive demonstration at Exhibition Space outside the Auditorium. Wisdom showed how to use the Hybrid Reality Platform (HRP) combining BIM and Reality Modeling, which could be visualized by immersive 4D CAVE system and Ultra Touch Table at the booth.
In the future, HKICBIM will represent interests of the industry, developing and sharing best practices that the BIM technology implements in support of the need of AEC industry in Hong Kong. The forum will also serve as a multi-stakeholder platform for diverse and innovative players from across the AEC industry, academic and user communities to better communicate and advocate the use of BIM.

Hong Kong Institute of Civil and Building Information Management (HKICBIM) is a newly formed institute which provides an informative platform for civil and building counterparts to network and exchange civil Building Information Modeling (BIM) knowledge. HKICBIM aims to foster technological innovation and accelerate the adoption of Civil and Building Information Modeling Management in the Architecture, Engineering, Construction (AEC) industry.
The Articles and By-Laws set out the HKICBIM objectives of establishment, grades of membership, structure and management, professional conduct, and other rules relevant to conduct the affairs of HKICBIM. In addition, the By-Laws may be revised and supplemented periodically as and when necessary.
